Suitability Recommendations
Investors have been bombarded over the past decade with investment products born out of financial engineering and quantitative analysis. Unfortunately, many of these products were designed and packaged to maximize the returns to their creators without regard to the underlying real world risks or suitability of the product for the investors to whom they were sold.
Suitability refers to the appropriateness of investments for specific investors. For example, some standard suitability factors include investment time horizons, liquidity needs, and risk tolerance. It is important to note that suitability and an investor's asset allocation go hand-in-hand. When done properly, asset allocation/suitability can be an invaluable tool for investors. When done improperly, asset allocation/suitability can threaten an investor's financial security. Ultimately, eligibility does not necessarily equal suitability.
